George Monro Grant, best known as Principal of Queen’s University of Kingston, Ontario, travelled Canada with Sir Sandford Fleming. Although the trips were made to find the best route for a transcontinental railway, Grant’s interest in Canada and its cultural traditions resulted, between 1882 and 1884, in the very successful publication of Picturesque Canada "The Country - As It Was and As It Is - Pourtrayed By The Best Writers and Artists".
