# 1 pressure gauge, manufactured by E. H. Ashcroft, Boston, USA; restored brass.  the Ashcroft Company in Massachusetts advises that the company has been in business since the 1870's.  They are unable to verify whether this gauge was for nautical or industrial use; normally a nautical gauge would have 'WC' (water column) marked.  Possibly from a ship at the port of Montreal, where it was acquired.

Description:   
This compass was manufactured in 1916 by E.S. Ritchie & Sons., Boston, USA.  It was sold on June 19'th of that year to Harrison & Company.   It is from a ship that is believed to have gone down off Long Point, Lake Ontario;  acquired from the Young family estate on East Lake, Ontario; restored brass, professionally polished and lacquered; inscribed  'E.S. Ritchie & Sons., Boston, USA', numbered '45357'.  (Many thanks to Ritchie Navigation for searching their company ledgers for this information.)
